About Me

During my Ph.D. at UC Berkeley, I studied clinical experiences and interactions with emerging fertility and genetic health technologies. I use mixed qualitative methods, e.g., interviews, ethnographic fieldwork, content analysis, surveys, and focus groups. My favorite aspect of research is being able to design and manage projects while working closely with doctors, clinicians, patients, donors, and surrogates.

My dissertation examines the routinization of prenatal genetic testing in the United States. I explore how testing is shaping how we understand healthiness, risk, and reproductive decision-making. This research is funded by the Institute for Citizens and Scholars.

My other projects include studies on egg donation, surrogacy, in vitro fertilization, and genome editing.

I was born in India and raised across six countries in the Middle East and Asia, before moving to New York City for my undergraduate studies. I hold an MA and PhD in Medical Sociology from UC Berkeley and graduated magna cum laude from Columbia University with a BA in Sociology and Human Rights.
